Launched in April, 2001, the Gene Discovery
Project allows families affected with epilepsy
to participate in ground breaking genetic research.
Using the interactive Family Tree Builder, families
can create a diagram of their family tree. This
provides a secure and anonymous way for approved
researchers to easily identify people and families
pertaining to their research without having identifying
information about the subject. This is the first
online tool to allow users to interactively create
a Family Tree and allow scientific research of
genetic related diseases based on family information
submitted "anonymously" through the Internet.

The Gene Discovery Project site took a GOLD award
as Best Interactive Site in the "Consumer Disease-Focused
Site" category in the"2001 eHealthcare Leadership
Awards, "recognizing the very best Web sites of
healthcare organizations, online health companies,

initiatives."
