Case 2
CenterWatch / Thomson Healthcare
Clinical Trials Listing Service
"We have very high standards at CenterWatch
and there are few companies that we work with who exceed
our standards. Illumina Interactive is one of those
few. Illumina's staff has a great deal of knowledge,
not only with multimedia and Internet applications,
but also the healthcare industry. It is rare to find
a company that has the level of commitment, professionalism
and creativity that Illumina Interactive demonstrates.
I thoroughly enjoy working with Illumina Interactive
on all our CenterWatch special projects."

Product & Marketing Manager
CenterWatch, Inc.
The Need
The clinical trials industry has
changed dramatically over the past 10 years - the rising
costs to bring a new drug to market, major new breakthroughs
in medical science and technology, increased regulatory
scrutiny around patient consent and privacy, and the constantly
evolving pharmaceutical and biotech landscape. CenterWatch
is a leading publishing company that provides information
services for patients, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and
medical device companies, and medical centers involved
in clinical research around the world. In addition to
their newsletters, books and industry reports, CenterWatch
recognized early on the value of the Internet as a means
to distribute its enormous wealth of information.
The Solution
In 1995, CenterWatch selected Illumina Interactive
to help them develop the nation's premier clearinghouse
of current information on the clinical trials industry.
Today, the CenterWatch Clinical Trials Listing Service
web site - at http://www.centerwatch.com - receives
over 600,000 visitors each month and is best known for
its constantly growing database of over 40,000 national
and international clinical research trials, through
which patients and their advocates can easily search
for promising new therapies for diseases like Cancer,
Alzheimer's, and AIDS.
The Listing Service
The service provides a link for patients to the hospitals,
academic institutions and clinical research centers
that are conducting trials, and helps research centers
and sponsoring pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies
in their ongoing patient-recruitment efforts. Patients
can also enroll in the site's "patient notification
service," which automatically contacts them via e-mail
of new trials or recently approved drugs in their area(s)
of interest.
In addition, the site provides:
 |
listings of new FDA
drug approvals and drugs in the clinical research
"pipeline," |
 |
integrated databases from the National
Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health, |
 |
professional-oriented news on the
clinical trials industry, |
 |
detailed research center profiles,
which pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies
can use to help them select investigative sites
for trial grants, |
 |
an extensive database of employment
listings in the clinical trials industry, and |
 |
helpful information fort patients
interested in participating in clinical trials.

Awarded a "Top 5% of the web" rating from Starting
Point, a "Select Site" award from the Dow Jones Business
Directory (they noted that "...this is a great site
that organizes information well and makes retrieving
what you want a breeze... all pages load quickly and
are thoughtfully produced..."), as well as numerous
other "Best of the web" awards for its content and design,
the site provides a wealth of information and services
to the medical community.
Illumina Interactive designed and developed the site
from start to finish, and continues to maintain and
enhance the site's features for CenterWatch, as we do
for many of our other clients. We provided CenterWatch's
staff with a suite of custom database application tools
to enable them to independently maintain the content
on the site (trial postings, profiles of research centers,
newly approved drugs, conference and training seminar
schedules, and employment listings) on a daily basis.
